Comparisons: Base and Top Coats Part 2

Hello!

Today I have a comparison to share.  I originally did one last October for the base and top coats I had owned.  Since then, I have finished/stopped using and bought new ones.

The reason I have so many different base and top coats is because I'm trying to find an alternative to Seche Vite.  I really like Seche Vite but I don't really like the smell and how it kind of thickens midway through the bottle.  I don't really care for Seche Base that much but I do use them together.

I just want to say first that below is just my opinion based on how the use has turned out for me.  I realize that even for base and top coats there are different batches or depending on how old it is.  Another factor is also how each one of us protects our hands/fingers.  So, what might not work for me, might work for you and vice versa.

OPI: Base Coat and Top Coat

I have a lot of base and top coats and I wasn't really thinking of buying anymore.  However, when I was at Trade Secrets buying something, they asked if I wanted this because it was on sale for C$12.99.  Usually 1 bottle is C$9.99, so I thought, why not.  This is the one that comes with the silver and gold glitter kit.

I have used this a few times, maybe less than five times.  The base coat is fine.  Dries pretty quickly.  I'm not loving the top coat.  It doesn't really dry that quickly.  Mind you it doesn't say it's a fast drying top coat either.  So it's not really the top coat's fault.  I just expected it to dry faster.

Does this pass the "I painted my nails right before going to bed and my nails were perfect when I woke up" test: No.  Since it's not a fast drying top coat, you will have to wait for a bit before sleeping.

Does it offer a gel like finish: Nope, nor does it claim to be.

Amount: 15mL

Essie: First Base (base coat) and Good To Go (top coat)

I was lucky enough to receive a L'Oreal Warehouse sale ticket early this year.  I bought First Base and Good To Go for $4.99 each.  If I bought more, there would have been more of a sale but I didn't need anything.  The base coat dries pretty quickly and so does the top coat.  Application wise, both of these are pretty good.  Since Good to Go does advertise as a fast drying top coat, it does as it claims.

In terms of chipping, I've had varying experience.  Sometimes my polish chips after 2 days or sometimes it'll last until 5 days.  I don't know if this is due to the things I'm doing that week or if it's the polish colour but I thought I would mention that.  Since I bought it on sale, I have no complaints and there is no offensive smell (just regular polish smell).

Does this pass the "I painted my nails right before going to bed and my nails were perfect when I woke up" test: Yes it does.

Does it offer a gel like finish: Nope, nor does it claim to be.

Amount: 15mL

Thoughts about Staining

I can't really comment on any of the bases I have reviewed so far regarding staining.  There are different categories of staining.
1) No matter which base coat or top coat combination, I normally don't get a lot of staining

2) I don't really have stained nails in the colour of the polish. I do notice that if I constantly remove and reapply that I get some yellowing nails but that grows out.

3) When I'm removing a polish with polish remover, if removal is annoying and the colour gets all over the place like by then staining my fingers and stuff.  However, I find this is more of the polish colour itself and nothing to do with base.  Also this would be staining upon removal with polish remover. If my polish chipped or something, I don't see any staining.
