Hello!
Thank you for joining me in my part 2 of my make up clean out. Besides make up clean out, I've cleaned out a lot of other things. Such as old text books that I kept but didn't end up using, and clothes that I no longer wear. The clothes are probably like 10 years old. I always thought there would be a special occasion or I'll end up wearing that piece the next year but never did. The thing is with clothes, you buy it, and I guess you leave it there thinking maybe one day you'll wear it and sometimes you do or sometimes you don't. There have been pieces of clothing that I bought last year and I am wearing this year. There are some that make the cut (I guess that's the only way I can put it).
So, with my make up, I usually buy things I want to try, or I think it's a good idea at the time. There was skin care that expired, but I thought I could still use it as long as I didn't break out. This time, I decided to take everything I had and see if there was an expiry date. If it expired, I had to put it in my toss bag. So I looked through and all the items that were past expiry wasn't like a few months, it was like maybe from January 2015 or even 2014. For the 2014 items, those had to go. I also thought if it wasn't finished by the expiry, I probably don't use it enough and it's probably never going to be used up anyways.
Here is the items that are passed expiry, or I was just gathering it up to bring to the Disposal Depot:
The evian mist is something I regret buying. I had a friend in high school who loved the mist. She usually used it during hot weather. So, I thought I would use it too. It was refreshing but I realized that I rarely brought it with me when I went out during the summer, or during vacation at a hot/humid place. So I didn't end up using it. The sprays expired summer 2014. Chances are, if I didn't use them before, I'm not going to use them now.
The boscia moisturizing masks expired January 2015. I bought it during a Black Friday sale for $10 each. One of them was meant as a gift but I ended up getting something else. So, when it expired, I definitely shouldn't be gifting that to anyone.
I bought the Lioele eyebrow pencil because I thought I would smooth out my brows (they are pretty thick as is its), but I never used it. Then I thought I would force myself to use it. Then when I twisted it all the way, I noticed that the product wasn't as smooth as before. I don't even want to think of it as mold. So I just won't go there.
The Maybelline tattoos, I rarely used. I really like Bad to the Bronze and I think I mad a pretty good dent in it. I bought this before the gold one and the gold one has changed in consistency. So, just in case, I decided to toss it too.
The lipsticks are pretty old. Especially the Dior. I read that lipsticks should be 1-2 years, and these are older than that. If they were unopened, it would be different but I definitely swatched or tested all of them.
The Illamasqua blush in Sleek was listed on my fall blushes. I really like that colour. I added it to this pile last minute because it is a cream blush and I had it since 2013. If it was a powder, for some reason I would still be okay with that but since it is a cream consistency, I decided it was time for it to go.
I brought this to the Disposal depot for Household Hazardous Waste. Now, if I had finished these items and they were actually empty, I could have just thrown them into recycling. However, there is product in there, so I looked up where to dispose it, and it was the disposal depot. To think, before I was throwing it into garbage :S. My Maybelline masacara is finished, I used it for 3 months but I think there is a bit of product left, so if I was going to the depot anyway, I may as well add it in.
I just wanted to add that I finished Marc Jacobs Dot! I was working to finish this. I loved it in 2013 when I bought it and I wore it everyday. Then last year, I wore Daisy more often. So I decided I wanted to finish Dot. I gotta be honest, I got used to this scent and fell back in love with it. However, I have to work on my other perfumes, so that will be that.
The lesson learned is really to buy products you enjoy. However, there are some in here that were new products for me and if I didn't buy them to test, how would I know I didn't like them? Or, some seemed like a good idea at the time, but was never used. There are also some products that are highly recommended by many people (youtube, or even friends), but they don't end up to be for you. So those are the types of products that are bought but are not used.
I decided that I will go and ask for samples at Sephora (because they do make samples) before buying new items. I think that should help. I mentioned that to a coworker, and she had completely forgotten that Sephora does samples. I guess we just remember the return policy but not the testing policy. This usually only works for foundations or products that can be squeezed. For lipstick, blushes, eyeshadows testers but swatching it on my hand is different than wearing it on my face. Also, store lighting is different than other lighting (cause there's outdoors, home lighting, office lighting, etc). Though, Sephora does have a mirror with all those different settings and I always found that interesting.
Thank you for reading my disposed items.
